The clutch adjustment determines whether the clutch disengages fully and engages fully. No mater where the adjustment is there is no reason for the clutch lever to pull extremely hard! I suspect that you have a frayed cable strand that does not want to move in the direction of the pull, but easily moves in the return direction of the return spring!??
